About my book covers

Let's face it, these are the star of the show and why we are all here.

Protect that favorite read from wear and tear, hide the newest "insert current hot topic" romance cover from the shade people throw, or just add a bit of beauty to the world with my hand made adjustable book covers.

You can use either side of the cover to face the world to match your mood or vibe in that moment. Click here to see a quick video on how to reverse your book cover.

These are made with two layers of fabric sewn together and there is a strip of elastic that secures around the cover flap of your book. There is also a ribbon sewn in to serve as a bookmark.

It all comes down to size

I make these covers in three specific sizes. The size is determined by how tall the book is. These covers are adjustable to grow depending on how thick of a book it is. The covers are forgiving enough to fit either paper or hardback books in the heights listed.

The Small size:

This fits a book up to 7 inches tall. Think palm sized paperbacks that were ubiquitous in the 90s and early 2000s. I used my 25-year-old copy of Richard Preston's "The Hot Zone" to develop my pattern. You can bet that is the model for all the photos of this size

The Medium size:

This fits a book up to 8.75 inches tall. Think most of the popular novels released these days. OR, this fits a A5 planner like a dream. I personally have a cover on my Leuchtturm 1917 journal. It also fits a Hobonichi Cousin. I used my paperback copy of "Sarah's Key" by Tatiana de Rosnay to create the pattern.

The Large size:

This fits a book up to 9 inches tall. Typically called trade book size. Think today's instant best sellers like "Fourth Wing" or the "Crescent City" series. To develop the pattern I used my paperback copy of "Wicked" by Gregory Maguire and a now controversial hardback that I won't give name to.

Imperfection is perfectly fine

Clothing and fabric make up a massive part of our overflowing waste stream. As I was developing the idea and plan for this project, I decided to only use Fat Quarters my local fabric shops sell from the end of bolts. They sell these to maximize use of the fabric, create less waste and hit a easy price point for quilters and handcrafters like me. I also use fabric that has been donated to me or I find second hand, again keeping it from the waste stream.

Because fat quarters typically come in 18x20 inch to 20x22 inch rectangles, I typically can get two covers out of a set of fabric. However, the cuts aren't always uniform and I cannot get a second cover without grafting cuts together. When that happens, there will be an unexpected seam in the middle of a cover. Please know, that is intentional to ensure I use the absolute most of my fabric and don't add to the waste stream.

I sew these in my home with the 'help' of my two kiddos and grumpy old pup. I promise I am a human, most days a hot mess and there will be small differences in each and every cover. If you have a specific idea for colors, or fabric choices please send me an email and we can discuss a commission. Also, hosting a gals retreat and want to have everyone get a cover? Send me an email and lets talk. :)
